For one day, March 4, 2008, scientists tested samples of wastewater from 96 different municipal wastewater systems in urban, suburban and rural areas. These 96 systems represent 65 percent of the population of Oregon. Cocaine metabolites were found mostly in urban areas but methamphetamine residues were found everywhere.
