Hockey and Drug-Prevention: Narconon Miracles vs. MADD Celebrity/Los Angeles Kings Alumni
Los Angeles News - Hockey Game Fundraiser
The Narconon® Miracles faced off against the MADD Celebrity/Los Angeles Kings Alumni team for a charity benefit to raise money for alcohol and other drug prevention activities on Sunday, June 19th. ESPN Radio 710 was there, along with TV Channels 2 and 7. (Picture Above: Ceremonial face-off between Clark Carr, President Narconon International, and Steve Emrick, Executive Director of the School Outreach Program for MADD)
The celebrity guest players included Dave Coulier (Full House) and Brendan Fehr (film and TV credits, including 3 seasons on Roswell), along with Rob Blake and "retired" NHL players Ian Turnbull, Marty McSorley, Dave Taylor, Jim Fox, Mark Hardy, Norm Emerson, John Enos, Darly Evans, and Gary Edwards.
One of the Miracles' goals (Miracles: 3, MADD team: 5) was scored by one of our two female players, Cora Lynn Alvar.
The stands were packed with over 600 excited fans. Another fan won the EBAY auction for the right to play with the L.A. Kings, tickets to games, etc.! There was also a silent auction at the game.
Number 5 for the Narconon Miracles, Joe Cure, is the actor who played Number 5 in the movie "Miracle" about the 1980 U.S. victory over the Soviets in the winter Olympics.
After the game, the trophy was given to the MADD team by Mr. Bill Hertz, Senior Vice President of Manns Theaters, to the captain of the LA Kings Alumni, Ian Turnbull. Then the fans were allowed to come onto the ice and meet the players and get their autographs.

Over $10,000 was raised, divided equally by both charities. The majority of MADD's funds will be used for the making of a theatrical film--a fictional film with a great plot that aligns with their message.
Exciting ideas for the next game are already in the works...
