"I couldn't have asked for a better ending of these books than Book 8. From everything I learned in all the other books, Book 8 put a polished finish on the knowledge retained. I now have a better understanding of how to show and act out what I have learned from these precepts. Thank you Narconon for the miracle you have been in my life. G.S."
Course 8, "The Way to Happiness Course," constitutes the final step of the Narconon program.
The student who has completed the seven previous courses is presented with a set of 21 precepts that make up a non-religious moral code based on common sense. Some examples are "Take care of yourself," "Don't Do Anything Illegal," "Be industrious," and "Respect the Religious Beliefs of Others".
Each precept is explained with points illustrating that concept. These precepts give the student what he needs to reason out what is right and wrong. They create a balance toward higher morality aimed to help the reader become a more productive member of society, capable of living an ethical, drug-free life. The student is guided by essays and practical exercises to apply these precepts to life.
Once the student has completed all eight courses, the case manager creates a customized program in preparation for graduation. This could include addressing a specific life circumstance not already addressed, applying material from all of the program's courses to situations that may still exist in the student's home or community environment.
"Book 8 was a great book. It tells you a lot of things that you think are common sense, but when you're a drug addict, you don't do them. It's a great book and it serves as kind of a refresher course for re-entering and how to conduct yourself in the world. A.T."
