National Recovery Month 2005

Across the nation, plans are well under way for the 16th annual National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month (September), started and sponsored by the federal government's Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services (SAMHSA) organization. According to SAMHSA, this year's theme is "Join the Voices for Recovery: Healing Lives, Families, and Communities," which celebrates the positive impact of treating alcohol and drug use in communities.

National Recovery Month in Oklahoma, September 2004Recovery Month highlights the benefits to the community and society of substance abuse treatment, acknowledges the contributions of treatment providers, and promotes the message that recovery from substance abuse in all its forms is possible. Each September, thousands of treatment programs around the country celebrate their successes and share them with their neighbors, friends, and colleagues in an effort to educate the public about treatment.

SAMHSA reports that there are over 22 million Americans in need of treatment for a drug or alcohol problem. Recovery Month builds awareness among individuals, organizations, schools, and communities that alcohol and drug addiction can be overcome. SAMHSA Administrator, Charles Curie, says, "The journey to recovery can sometimes start from just one phone call."

The Narconon® rehabilitation program has proven that addiction can be overcome by using effective rehabilitation techniques developed by American author and humanitarian L. Ron Hubbard. Three out of four of its graduates remain drug free!

"Sometimes people need alternative methods of handling a problem," explains Luke Catton, a graduate of the Narconon program and staff at Narconon Arrowhead in Oklahoma. "And in case of drug and alcohol addiction, we've proven for over three decades that our non-traditional approaches achieve a much better result for most addicts. Drug and alcohol addiction doesn't have to be a lifelong battle where you're constantly fighting the cravings and urges to use again."

Narconon Arrowhead, for example, is hosting a Community Awareness Day in their nearby town of McAlester on September 17th.

Narconon International encourages everyone to use this opportunity to enlighten the people in their community that recovery IS possible.
