Thousands Raised for Drug Education and Rehabilitation in the Bay Area
San Francisco News -- Sixth Annual Narconon Benefit Golf Tournament
At 6:30 a.m. on a sunny Saturday morning, fifty-five Bay Area parents and concerned citizens gathered at the beautiful Tilden Park Golf Course in Berkeley, California, for the Sixth Annual Narconon® Bay Area Benefit Golf Tournament. It was a fun way to show their support for a drug-free community and to help bring effective drug education to local schools and drug rehabilitation services to the Bay Area.
Along with Narconon drug education, New Life Center of San Francisco (NLC) also benefited from the funds raised at the tournament. NLC is located at the heart of downtown San Francisco, with four buildings servicing the local community. This program works to restore confidence, self-respect and integrity to its clients using a combination of the most effective and innovative substance abuse treatment modalities, all set within a clinical environment known as a Therapeutic Community.
"Our commitment is to return people to society as productive, honest, and caring human beings," says NLC Director, Rich Prescott.
Richard Rensberry, Volunteer Tournament Director and concerned Bay Area resident. Mr. Rensberry is the creator of the tournament and has spent hundreds of volunteer hours to make this event possible. "I love this community and I love golf. I can't think of a better way to contribute," says Rensberry.
Narconon drug rehabilitation and prevention is a secular program, founded in 1966 by William Benitez, based on the discoveries of American researcher and humanitarian L. Ron Hubbard. Narconon literally means "narcotics-none" or "no drugs." Narconon drug prevention services have demonstrated their effectiveness worldwide for over 30 years.
Thousands of Bay area youth have benefited throughout the years from the Narconon "Truth About Drugs" presentations thanks to this continued support from the community. Funds were raised from the players' entry fees, from the raffle, and from those individuals and businesses who sponsored a green.
"We're raising money to keep the message going out that drugs are not an acceptable way to solve problems. The goal is to stop drug abuse before it starts, by giving youth the facts about drugs," says Tony Bylsma, Executive Director of California Narconon Drug Education."
"Students have questions about drugs and when we go into a classroom, we tell them how drugs will affect their minds, their bodies, themselves. Then they can make a decision for themselves."
